About the role We are looking for a senior engineer who is motivated to build scalable platforms and solve hard backend, data, and integration problems. This is not a traditional reporting or ETL-focused role: you will design and evolve the systems that move data from ingestion and normalization through storage, enrichment, analytics, APIs, and machine-learning workflows. A major focus will be creating secure, reliable platform capabilities for third-party algorithms, including execution environments, APIs, SDKs, documentation, testing tools, deployment patterns, and operational controls that help external developers integrate their algorithms into Pulsar products. You will partner with software engineers, data scientists, product leaders, and customers to create reusable platform capabilities that support both today’s product needs and tomorrow’s scale. The role carries meaningful architectural ownership: you will make pragmatic technical decisions, and know when to invest in a durable foundation versus validate an idea quickly. What you’ll do Evolve our storage and compute architecture for high-volume time-series and event data. Build a platform for third-party algorithms, including the secure execution environments and lifecycle controls. Create an effective developer experience through APIs, SDKs, documentation, reference implementations, and tools for integrating algorithms. Create reusable abstractions that enable product and analytics teams to work efficiently without absorbing unnecessary platform complexity. Set technical direction by leading architectural decisions and taking major initiatives from discovery through production. Advance AI-enabled engineering. Engage with users and partners to translate needs into dependable platform capabilities. What we're looking for: A strong engineer who's built and owned production platforms or distributed systems at real scale and can drive an architecture to done without being managed. Writes clean, maintainable code with a solid computer science foundation. Hands-on experience with big-data frameworks, building streaming or batch systems that stay correct and fast as data grows from GB to TB. Platform builder: you make the systems other teams stand on, and design them to last. Strong understanding of machine-learning operations needed to support data science teams. Strong in typed languages (Go) and API integration strategies Nice to have: Open source contributions (especially relating to data processing and storage) Lakehouse storage (Iceberg, Delta, Paimon, Doris, StarRocks). Orchestration and workflow engines (Restate, Temporal).
