Cloud Platform Engineer

Cloud Platform Engineer Location: Remote, US Industry: IT Services and IT Consulting Work Setting: Remote Are you passionate about building and operating cloud-native platforms that enable scalable, secure, and reliable application delivery? We are seeking a Platform Engineer with strong Kubernetes, GitOps, and Infrastructure-as-Code expertise to help design, automate, and manage modern cloud infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to improve platform reliability, enhance developer productivity, and drive operational excellence across cloud environments. Key Responsibilities Kubernetes Platform Operations Manage and optimize production Kubernetes environments across cloud platforms. Perform cluster upgrades, scaling activities, lifecycle management, and capacity planning. Ensure platform reliability, availability, and performance through proactive monitoring and maintenance. Support multi-environment deployments while maintaining operational consistency and security standards. GitOps & Deployment Automation Design, maintain, and enhance GitOps workflows using Argo CD or similar deployment technologies. Manage application deployment configurations, synchronization policies, and environment standardization. Establish deployment best practices and governance controls across development and production environments. Improve release automation and deployment reliability through continuous process enhancement. Infrastructure as Code Develop, maintain, and enhance reusable Terraform modules to support cloud infrastructure provisioning. Implement infrastructure standards, state management strategies, and configuration consistency controls. Monitor and remediate infrastructure drift while ensuring compliance with engineering standards. Automate infrastructure deployment and management processes to improve efficiency and scalability. Platform Reliability & Observability Monitor platform health, performance, and availability using modern observability tools. Investigate incidents, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Conduct post-incident reviews and identify opportunities for operational improvements. Continuously improve monitoring, alerting, logging, and platform resilience capabilities. Developer Enablement & Collaboration Partner with application teams to onboard services and optimize deployment workflows. Create technical documentation, operational runbooks, and self-service tooling. Provide guidance on platform usage, infrastructure best practices, and cloud-native architectures. Support engineering teams in adopting automation and operational excellence practices. Security & Compliance Implement and maintain role-based access control (RBAC) policies and identity management controls. Design and enforce network security policies, secrets management, and access governance processes. Ensure platform security aligns with organizational and regulatory requirements. Support security reviews, audits, and risk mitigation initiatives. CI/CD & Automation Integrate platform capabilities with CI/CD pipelines to enable streamlined software delivery. Improve automation across build, deployment, testing, and operational workflows. Support continuous integration and deployment strategies that increase delivery speed and reliability. Drive adoption of infrastructure automation and DevOps best practices. Required Skills & Experience Strong experience managing production Kubernetes environments. Experience with major cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Hands-on expertise with Argo CD, Flux, or other GitOps technologies. Strong proficiency with Terraform, including module development, state management, and infrastructure provisioning. Experience developing automation solutions using Python, Bash, or Go. Knowledge of Helm for Kubernetes package management. Strong understanding of networking concepts including: DNS Load balancing Ingress controllers Service mesh architectures Experience with monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability practices. Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting multi-cluster or multi-region Kubernetes environments. Knowledge of service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd. Experience implementing Policy-as-Code and governance frameworks. Familiarity with cloud-native security and compliance practices. Experience contributing to open-source projects or platform engineering tools.
