ABOUT ZAHLN

Zahln, by Zysygy, is building a zero-fee payment network for Germany on European banking rails. Merchants pay no transaction fees. No card networks, no hardware, just a phone.

Nearly every digital payment in Germany today moves over infrastructure owned outside Europe, and a share of each one leaves the continent as fees. We are building the alternative: a fully software-based merchant POS and a consumer app that settle account to account over SEPA Instant, with European data residency by design. Think what UPI did for India. We are doing it for Germany, on infrastructure Europe controls.

THE ROLE

You are our first designer. You own how Zahln looks, feels and works, everywhere it appears: the consumer app, the merchant app, the web dashboard, our website, and every post, deck and poster that carries our name. There is no design team, no design system and no brand book. You build all three, and you bring the experience to do it without being told how.

We want a product that feels as sleek and trustworthy as the best consumer apps in the world. When someone pays with Zahln, it should feel effortless, and they should never wonder whether the payment went through.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

*1. Product design*

• End-to-end flows: Design complete flows for our consumer and merchant apps and the web dashboard, including every state: loading, success, failure, empty and first use.

• Design system: Build our design system in Figma from scratch, with tokens, components and documentation our engineers actually use.

• Interaction and motion: Design the micro-interactions that make the product feel alive, and specify them precisely enough to build.

• Engineering handoff: Work directly with our engineers, deliver clean specs, and make sure what ships matches what you designed.

• Testing: Put designs in front of real users, watch where they hesitate, and fix it.

*2. Brand and marketing*

• Visual identity: Create or refine our logo, color, typography and brand guidelines so they work everywhere, from an app icon to a poster.

• Website: Design our website for consumers, merchants and institutions.

• Templates: Build social media, pitch deck and one-pager templates simple enough for non-designers to use without breaking the brand.

• Print and physical: Design the materials that live in the real world: QR stands, stickers and posters.

WHO YOU ARE

• 5+ years in design, with at least 3 in consumer product design (UI/UX).

• You have designed at least one consumer app end to end that is live in the App Store or Play Store.

• Experience in fintech, payments or another product where users trust you with something important.

• Exceptional visual craft: typography, spacing, hierarchy, and the restraint to leave things out.

• You have built a design system from scratch, not only worked inside one.

• Brand work in your portfolio alongside product work, in a consistent visual language.

• Expert in Figma, with prototyping and motion skills.

• You design for accessibility (WCAG AA) and for more than one language, including long German words.

• You turn a vague brief into options, reasoning and a recommendation.

• Strong written English for a team that works async across Germany and India.

• You want to build a company, not fill a position.

STRONG BONUS (NOT REQUIRED)

• Design experience at a well-known consumer fintech.

• Worked on a product with both a merchant side and a consumer side.

• Built a website yourself in Framer or Webflow.

• Front-end understanding (HTML, CSS, React Native), so your designs are buildable.

• You use AI tooling seriously in your design work, and know where it helps and where it doesn't.

HOW WE WILL MEASURE YOU

A product people can use without thinking, a brand that is recognisable on every surface, and a design system solid enough that engineers and non-designers can build on it without you in the room.

HOW TO APPLY

Send your portfolio with at least one shipped app. Shortlisted candidates complete a short design task.
